What rebound in tourism? What real time indicators say #10

As we saw last week , through retail sales, electricity and mobility indices, economic recovery persists in all European countries. Nevertheless, one sector remains among the most affected by the crisis: tourism . This week, we have chosen to focus on real-time indicators related to this sector of activity, following our publication on the impact of COVID-19 on the sector : Google Trends indicators seems to show a renewed interest of French Internet users for holidays in France for all types of accommodation: a record in the use of certain keywords from the end of containment. The opening of tourism in Europe is finally present through the studies of Google Mobility Reports . In terms of international tourism, there has been a slight increase in interest from international visitors to France , but they remain low due to restrictions on international mobility. Commercial flights are slowly recovering , but they remain well below pre-crisis levels (60% compared to February 2020). Finally, the data on catering shows a heterogeneous recovery depending on the country : while bookings decreased by -3.8% in annual growth in Germany between 25 June and 8 July, they are still -89% lower in the United Kingdom at the same time .
