Why has the US participation rate declined?

When we calculate the participation rate (the proportion of the working-age population available to the labour market) in the same way in the United States and the euro zone, we see that it has declined sharply in the United States. A breakdown by category shows that this decline is mainly due to men aged 20 to 59 and people with an intermediate level of education. This significant decline in the US participation rate reveals several important mechanisms: Shortcomings in the healthcare system affect the employment rate in the United States; Weak social welfare and low replacement incomes have not encouraged Americans into work (conversely, increased social welfare will not reduce the employment rate); The United States probably has a severe skills problem.
