Why is France’s corporate social contribution rate so high?

The weight of corporate social contributions is extremely high in France compared with other OECD countries. Even though the effect of this situation on employment has been mitigated in France by reductions in contributions on low wages, it remains negative for employment. What accounts for this situation? The high generosity of social welfare? Undoubtedly; A differen t choice than that made in other countries concerning the distribution of the tax burden across the various taxes?
