Why the US economy may be in trouble
There is reason to be concerned about the growth outlook for 2022 in the United States since: The reduction in the structural fiscal deficit will be considerable; The surge in inflation is reducing wage earners’ purchasing power; The contribution of foreign trade to growth will remain negative; The participation rate has declined, but this can be offset by faster productivity gains; Consumers remain cautious and are not consuming their accumulated savings. This prospect of modest growth in 2022 in the United States will not push the Federal Reserve to be very aggressive in exiting quantitative easing.
