2022 was a tougher year than we expected for African Telcos & Towers. While fundamentals remained generally good, the war in Ukraine and its impact especially on fuel prices as well as other macro pressures created some strong headwinds. While some of these are perhaps inflecting, we think in many ways 2023 will remain a tough environment, with headwinds in South Africa and the Nigerian election.
MTN Group is a holding company engaged in the investment in the telecommunications industry offering voice services via 2G and 3G networks, including prepaid and postpaid airtime, please-call-me message service, international roaming, electronic voucher distribution services and community payphones, mobile and fixed data products, including short message service (SMS), multimedia message services, internet access, MTN MobileMoney, content portal MTN Play, Google SMS information services, USSD services and corporate data services. Co.'s operations are divided into the following three regions: South and East Africa, West and Central Africa, and the Middle East and North Africa.
Vodafone Group provides mobile and fixed telecommunication services including: access charges, voice and video calls, messaging, interconnect fees, fixed and mobile broadband and related services such as providing televisual and music content, connection fees and equipment sales. Co. provides a range of consumer products and services including mobile, fixed voice, broadband and television, financial as well as other services to operators outside its footprint. Co. also provides a range of enterprise products and services including total communications such as mobile, fixed and a suite of converged communications services, internet of things, cloud and hosting and carrier services.
