Bible 4Q23 - Smartphones: overall demand improves, iPhone slows, semis return to secular growth.

Today, we are publishing the Smartphones section of our 22nd Tech Infrastructure Quarterly Bible. The Tech Bible is a must-read for any tech investor, as it summarizes the quarterly earnings reports from the over 130 companies we track, providing an update on our key perspectives and convictions. In the coming weeks we will publish sections on Automotive, Cloud Infrastructure, Telecom Equipment, Industrials, PCs, Enterprise IT, Ride sharing & Delivery, Foundry, Memory and Semicap Equipment.

Smartphone demand is improving, with shipments returning to YoY growth for the first time since 2021 and Qualcomm, Qorvo, Skyworks & Mediatek now guiding for growth in 2024. iPhone growth is slowing with the March quarter guide implying a deceleration vs. December. We remain concerned about the macro & Chinese OEMs stepping up competition. Semis are back to secular growth, with expectations reflecting well the 2022 inventory build-up flushing in 2023 and more sustainable growth in 2024.
