The impact of Fixed Wireless on BEAD

In this report, our next on the BEAD report series, we analyze how licensed Fixed Wireless (FW) has impacted the number of BEAD-eligible locations, and the share of BEAD funds allocated to each state. Given the purposes of the BEAD program, the decision to include FW in the allocation calculations may prove counter-productive, and that states should consider ignoring FW in their grant processes in all but the most difficult-to-serve locations where fiber isn’t feasible.
