An Israeli study published on Thursday showed that vaccine efficacy waned significantly against the Delta variant after ~6 months with efficacy down to just 16% for those vaccinated in January. Furthermore, hospitalisation rates also seemed to be higher in those vaccinated in January. Israel vaccinated its population the fastest so is best placed to conduct studies on vaccine durability. We assess the consequences of such a rapid loss of protection against the Delta variant which is becoming the dominant strain in most countries.
