New Street: Telecom Italia (Buy, €0.48, +45%) Bid from KKR on the way? Our take.

It is being reported on Bloomberg that KKR is considering making a bid for Telecom Italia and the Telecom Italia Board is meeting today to discuss this bid. It is also being reported that Vivendi, in conjunction with CVC, might be considering a counter-bid as well. Strategic shareholders have struggled to make a return out of owning Telecom Italia in the past – this time though might be different with KKR. We see strong similarities between what KKR might see in TI and what Drahi might see in BT. In this short note, we run through what KKR might be seeing that the public market might be missing.
