What Does Texas Tell Us About Fiber v. Satellite

One of the most important questions for investors about the BEAD program is whether the Trump Administration changes the program requirements to shift funds from fiber to satellite (or fixed wireless). As we have noted before, eliminating the Biden era fiber preference will not materially change the distribution of funds but setting a national high-cost threshold could do so. We covered this in a previous note where we discussed the different impact of certain high-cost threshold ranges. In this note, we look at real world data from Texas to provide a more accurate calibration of the impact of different thresholds on shifting funds from fiber to alternatives.
