Can Automakers Maintain Their FY21 Guidance Numbers?

When Japanese OEMs released their FY21 Q1 results, the recovery story was still intact, with auto sales surging on low bases of comparison and demand having been pushed forward. Analyst consensus numbers (overall higher than guidance numbers) seemed to indicate that automakers were perhaps lowballing their forecasts, leaving room for upgrades when Q2 results were being announced. However, since July there have been several developments that could undermine this scenario. Julie Boote investigates how the changes could translate to the OEM’s outlook for the second half of this fiscal year
