PSA Autos: Fiat Chrysler Renault Merger – Consequences for Nissan

The Fiat Chrysler merger proposal to Renault puts Nissan in a difficult position, as it has no say in the matter and could find itself relegated to being a ‘junior’ partner in a larger group. Except for scale, analyst Julie Boote sees little to benefit Nissan on either a regional or product level. Risk scenarios include Renault or Nissan eventually wanting to leave the alliance, although the possibility of the FCA-Renault merger to fail could make it worthwhile for Nissan to stay put. After 20 years of collaboration, we believe that the ties between Renault and Nissan are much stronger than currently assumed
