PSA Media & Entertainment: Rating Japanese Video Game Stocks Ahead of the Switch 2 Reveal

Traditionally, the Japanese video game sector is quite a seasonal one, with the shares roughly tracking activity in the real world. So, you buy the sector in August / September, and by the end of March, you should be looking to take profits. Given that the past six months have indeed been good for Japanese video game stocks, that should apply here. However, this time does look rather different. The obvious reason for sector exceptionalism in 2025 is the launch of the Switch 2, which not only gives us an immediate catalyst for sector interest, with the reveal happening next week [2 Apr], but may well provide us with a summer-long boost, since all the talk is of a June launch for the console. However, Nintendo is not the only video game company eyeing good news in the spring. Pelham Smithers takes us through the Japanese publishers and ranks them accordingly.
