The Nikkei reported on 23 Oct that DRAM prices fell for the first time in 17 months in September – news which on the surface may not seem that surprising. Although the memory chip market is being helped in aggregate by AI-related demand for high bandwidth memory [HBM], the two main markets for quoted DRAM prices, smartphones and PCs, have been in the doldrums.
