Oil&Gas Sector News - The path to decarbonisation of the oil&gas sector

-With the focus on climate changes remaining on top of investors agenda, we have looked at the potential evolution of global oil and gas demand through three different scenarios
-The net-zero pledges made so far would not be sufficient to limit the average raise to 1.5 degrees, hence bolder actions would be required
-Depending how fast the global energy mix changes, the share of oil and gas could either stay at ca. 53% or decrease to 45% or to 19% by 2050
-Oil&Gas sector decarbonisation should be mainly driven by the transport sector. Even in the Net-Zero scenario, ca. 24 mn bbl/d of oil and 1,700 bcm of gas are expected to be still used in 2050
-Besides electrification and efficiency improvement, potential solutions to decarbonize the sector include low-carbon fuels, hydrogen and carbon sequestration
-Many of CEE players are lagging behind their Western peers in terms of decarbonisation strategies with the exception of OMV and to a less extent MOL and PKN
