MARKET COMMENT - RUSSIAN BANKS OUTPERFORMED, WHILE DMS HIT BY GROWTH AND TRADE WORRIESThe RTS gained 0.7% yesterday to reach 1,248, outperforming the EM average for a third straight day and again hitting a one-year high. DMs declined amid US threats of a trade war with the EU, and as the IMF cut its global growth forecasts. US Attorney General William Barr announced that the Mueller report regarding President Donald Trump and Russia would be released "within a week." Halyk is acquiring a 49% stake in Click, Uzbekistan’s largest payments platform, with over 20m users, for USD 176m. In parallel, Click shareholders will take a 49% stake in Halyk’s Tenge Bank for USD 61m. We believe this is a positive deal, as Click can give Halyk the momentum and distribution channel it needs to grow in Uzbekistan’s vibrant retail banking market, in our view.
