Armenia Economics - GDP Growth Set to Slow Further

Armenia's economic activity gauge rose 5.8% in 2018, versus 7.7% growth in 2017, implying that GDP growth slowed last year (we project 5.4% GDP growth in 2018, down from 7.5% in 2017). Slower industrial production growth and a decline in agricultural output were the main factors behind last year's weaker growth. We expect GDP growth to ease again this year, to 4.5%, mainly due to a further slowdown in industrial production and retail trade. However, other sectors of the economy should deliver stronger results, including construction and agriculture, leading to more balanced growth.
