Azerbaijan Economic Update. November 2018 - Well Positioned for Stronger Growth in 2019
We expect GDP growth to accelerate to 3.2% next year from 1.2% in 2018. Growth has been anemic this year, stemming from a drop in investment in the oil and gas industry due to the high base from last year, when the second stage of the Shah Deniz field was completed. However, a pickup in oil and gas-related investments and gas production, high oil prices and stronger consumer demand (the latter driven by fiscal stimulus and low inflation) should support the economy in 2019, in our view.
