MARKET COMMENT - SURGE IN OIL AND RUBLE HELPS PUSH MOEX INDEX TO NEW RECORD HIGHThe MSCI Russia climbed 2.2% yesterday, placing Russia at the top of EMs. The ruble-denominated MOEX index finished the day 1.2% higher at an all-time record high of 2,403. Gains in both Brent and the ruble provided ample support. Brent was supported by media reports that Saudi Arabia is now comfortable with Brent above $80/bbl and that Iranian exports are declining. Highly liquid financials and other well-known proxies for the Russian market led the way.
