Commodities Daily - September 5, 2018

Oil spikes amid hurricane threat in Gulf of Mexico; US inventory data on the radar. We think Brent could correct further toward the $77/bbl mark amid shakiness on equity markets and dollar strength in the face of US-Canada and US-China trade uncertainties, with officials so far struggling to find common ground on both fronts.Gold struggles as dollar advances on risk-off trading and strong US manufacturing data. We expect risk-off trading to persist today and expect investors to continue shifting into safe-haven dollar assets. We believe gold is likely to consolidate close to the $1,190/oz mark later in the day.
