Following two years of consistent declines, rebounding consumer sentiment in Russia helped unsecured retail lending show the first signs of recovery in 2Q17. Consumer lenders have cleaned up their balance sheets and adjusted themselves to tighter regulation, while the market has consolidated, which makes this segment of the overall banking space relatively more attractive. Fixed income investors' interest in the segment has grown further since Tinkoff Bank tapped the market with a debut perpetual AT1 deal, which could pave the way for others.
