CIS Market Daily - August 28, 2018

MARKET COMMENTThe RTS and MSCI EM gained 1.8% apiece yesterday, while London was closed for holiday. The ruble provided intraday support, but after-market quotes retreated, resulting in a roughly flat performance for the day, with USD/RUB at around 67.4. Aside from ample macro data, including key US trade reporting, Russian/FSU markets may today be watching for any signs of developments in Syria, as rhetoric has been heating up among key players in the region, including Russia and the US. We expect a slight retreat on the open for the RTS on the back of a drop in futures and the ruble last night.
