MSCI Indexes - No Changes for Now to Treatment of Unequal Voting Rights

MSCI has decided not to make any adjustments for treatment of companies with differentiated voting rights in its headline indexes. Instead, it will offer an alternative index line limiting such companies' weights. Our previous research indicates that MSCI's alternative indexes have a limited following in emerging markets, and we doubt that this will change for the EM asset class in the foreseeable future. Hence, at this time we expect MSCI's new alternative index line to have only a negligible impact on EM allocations, including Russian.
