Russia FX/Rates Snapshot - August 19, 2019
On Wednesday, the Fed minutes will be published from the July meeting, where the regulator lowered rates for the first time in eight years. It is likely that the markets will not read too much into the Fed's rhetoric, as there have been some major developments since the meeting was held, including a pickup in geopolitical tensions and further signs of weakness in the global economy. Market participants will be more interested in hearing what Chairman Jerome Powell has to say in his speech on Friday at the Jackson Hole symposium. The annual event is generally academic in nature, but this year's symposium might prove an exception and cause a significant shift in markets in one direction or the other.
