Geopolitical headlines will likely remain a key driver for the ruble in the short term. The US Republican National Convention, which kicks off today, could generate such headlines. If geopolitical concerns cool down somewhat, the ruble, which has already recovered to USD/RUB 74.6 this morning, could continue on to 74. If they do not, the ruble could weaken beyond 75 versus the dollar.
