Russia FX/Rates Snapshot - August 9, 2018

Russian assets slumped yesterday after Kommersant published the text of a sanctions bill introduced last week by US Senator Lindsey Graham. The toughest measures it proposes are restrictions on new Russian sovereign debt and a ban on "transaction in all property and interests in property" of specific Russian banks. Then, overnight the US announced another round of new sanctions on Russia related to the Skripal poisonings, which compounded the misery. Today, USD/RUB risks a move to 67, while the selloff in the rates market could continue.
