CIS Market Daily - August 6, 2019

MARKET COMMENT - CURRENCIES ENTERING THE TRADE WAR SENT MARKETS PLUMMETINGStock markets took a whooping yesterday, the MSCI ACWI global index falling 2.5%, its worst one-day fall since February 2018. The escalation in the US-China trade war, particularly USD/CNY crossing above 7 for the first time in a decade and the US declaring China a currency manipulator for the first time since 1994, sent markets tumbling. Russia fared better than most, after slumping on Friday, on the back of sanction news that turned out less negative than some had feared. Though the Chinese currency has slightly reversed this morning, the broader morning backdrop looks mixed.STORIES> VTB 2Q19 and 1H19 IFRS preview: Solid quarter> Unipro 2Q19 IFRS preview: Strong output, good spot price growth> TGK-1 2Q19 IFRS results: Heat subsidies support the bottom line
