“If you can’t find it grind it” – that was the lesson shouted to me in my youth as I tried to remember the gear complications of the H or the M manual transmission on the car as hit started up another hill. Back then, clutches wore out and gears would grind away. Perhaps there is a lesson for markets from those days of old technology where finding the right gear mattered. AI and machine learning may not have that solution for traders yet. Leverage in the time of normalizing rates and higher volatility appears to be deadly still. Overnight the lack of big news – Japan CPI missed again, German PPI higher, Eurozone trade surplus larger but exports and imports down. Many remain stuck in neutral with the list of things to watch longer than the list of things to charge after – even though the US Russell 2000 put in yet another record high yesterday and US 30Y bond yields scratched near the 3.25% breakout zone. So the grinding nature of today will rest on the l
onger-term uphill battle for geopolitical concerns – something that should be listed out and put into the H plan for today.
