The VN-Index faced strong profit taking pressure during the afternoon session, in contrast to the market’s earlier excitement. This resulted in the gains of the morning session being eliminated. The VN index lost around 8 points, and closed with a 0.31% decline. While the VN-Mid had a small gain of 0.01%, both the VN-30 and VN-SML failed to stay in positive territory. The market breadth was negative, with 112 stocks increasing versus 132 stocks declining. Banking and oil and gas stocks, which were the main drivers of the increase this morning, were not able to cause the VN Index to rise today, as only STB and GAS gained today. Market liquidity was very high, with total trading value of roughly VND3,400 billion (+19%); the trading volume of large-caps accounted for nearly half of this.
