WOOD Flash – European natural gas monthly: September 2020
Prices made a very big comeback in September 2020, with the TTF averaging EUR 11.2/MWh, actually above the same month last year. We believe that this was primarily a supply-related correction, with LNG 13% below last year, Russia down 8% and only North Africa showing a positive trend. Inventory levels are now very marginally below the same month last year, which represents the first baby step towards rebalancing, in our view. In July, US LNG supplies to Europe fell below last year for the first time since August 2018, with volumes just one-sixth of what they were in February. There has been no update of gas consumption volume data, but we believe that the recovery is continuing, anecdotally.
