After a stellar 2019, Bytedance appears to have done even better in Jan 2020 becoming the most downloaded app (non-gaming) globally, overtaking the likes of Whatsapp, Instagram and Facebook. Looking at its overseas growth shows that most of the users growth has been coming from India.
Despite its regulatory woes in early 2019, the company managed to stage a strong rebound over the rest of the year. However, all the growth doesn’t appear to be purely organic (word-of-mouth driven), as various reports appear to indicate that the company has been spending on getting and retaining top content creators.

ByteDance IPO is one of the major listings by Chinese TMT companies that we are looking forward to. The company was valued at USD 75 billion in a pre-IPO round in October 2018.
