AlzChem wins NutraIngredients Award 2021 as "Ingredient of the Year: Sports Nutrition" // Offensive in growth market Nutrition with focus on vegan and vegetarian nutrition

Trostberg, May 26, 2021 - AlzChem Group AG will benefit in the future from strong growth in the market for vegan and vegetarian foods. AlzChem produces high-purity creatine under the brand name Creapure(R), which can be used as a dietary supplement, especially in foods for vegan and vegetarian nutrition. Since people who eat only vegan or vegetarian food are very often deficient in creatine, Creapure(R) guarantees an adequate supply of this energy transporter and store, which is only rudimentarily present in this group of people. Athletes also benefit from the product: the share of the body's own creatine is balanced by Creapure(R). AlzChem therefore enjoys an excellent international reputation and a good market position, particularly in the market for sports nutrition supplements. Consequently, AlzChem recently received the NutraIngredients Award 2021 as "Ingredient of the Year" in the field of "Sports Nutrition" for its Creapure(R) product. With this award, an independent jury of experts from the leading international portal for the functional food & beverage and dietary supplements industry, NutraIngredients.com, annually honors globally outstanding ingredients, end products, companies, people and initiatives in the food and dietary supplements industry.

Andreas Niedermaier, CEO of the AlzChem Group, commented as follows: "We are very pleased to receive this international award and it underlines once again how successfully we are positioning ourselves in the market as the quality leader "Made in Germany". As a dietary supplement producer in the sports market, we are very well recognized worldwide. Now, our goal is to bring the benefits of our high-quality creatine, which we sell as an additive to sports nutrition producers, even more strongly to the food industry, which focuses on vegan and vegetarian foods. This is a huge growth market that generated a sales volume of EUR 1.2 billion in Germany alone in 2019. Experts see double-digit growth of over eleven percent annually from 2020 to 2027 in the global market for plant-based foods. We want to benefit from this. At the same time, the award is also a reason for us to continue positioning ourselves in this market and to successively further optimize and expand our existing product range."

Creatine can realize its full potential as a dietary supplement, particularly in foods for vegan and vegetarian nutrition and in sports nutrition. Creatine plays a central role in human cells as an energy transporter and store. In the body of an adult, there are about 80 to 130 grams of this natural, endogenous substance. However, since the body breaks down and excretes around one to two percent of it every day, it must regularly replenish its creatine supply. Various organs can synthesize part of it, while the body must absorb the rest through food. However, creatine is only found in relevant quantities in meat and fish, but not in vegetables or dairy products. Therefore, it is necessary for people who eat a vegan or vegetarian diet to also consume additional creatine through their food.

AlzChem is the leading Western manufacturer of high-purity creatine supplied to the food industry. Since 2019, AlzChem has also been offering LIVADUR(R), a creatine-based end-user product that can significantly improve the effect of regular strength training on muscle strength in adults when taken daily.
