AIA Group’s Third Quarter Remained Strong Despite Narrowed VONB
AIA announced a 25% year-on-year growth in value of new business, or VONB, in a brief third-quarter update. The growth was lower than the 36% and 28% growths in the first and second quarter, respectively. The results were slightly better than our expectation. We had anticipated VONB growth should gradually slow down on base effects in the previous quarters as sales to mainland customers accelerated since August 2015 along with increasing capital outflow on fear of further RMB depreciation.
