Sanderson Farms Posts Strong Fiscal 2016 Revenue, Profitability; Long-term Outlook Unchanged
We do not plan a large change to our $102 per share fair value estimate for no-moat Sanderson Farms after it announced strong fourth-quarter earnings. The firm posted 0.4% full-year sales growth and a 10% operating margin, ahead of our expected 1% decline and 9% respective targets. Still, we do not anticipate materially changing our long-term forecast, which calls for 4.7% annual top-line growth and 9% operating margins on average from fiscal 2017 to 2025, with consumers’ shift to poultry helpin...Sanderson Farms is a poultry processing company engaged in the production, processing, marketing and distribution of frozen chicken products, including processed and minimally prepared chicken. The company sells ice-packed, chill-packed, bulk-packed and frozen chicken, in whole, cut-up and boneless form to retailers, distributors, and casual dining operators, and to customers who resell frozen chicken into export markets. The company operates through: Sanderson Farms, Inc. (Production Division), which is engaged in the production of chickens to the broiler stage; and Sanderson Farms, Inc. (Processing Division), which is engaged in the processing, sale and distribution of chicken products.
