No-moat Singapore Airlines, or SIA, reported disappointing fiscal 2017 results that missed our expectation and market consensus. Net income dropped 55% year on year to SGD 361 million, as one-off losses related to plane disposals, higher cargo-related provision costs, and impairment losses (the Tiger trademark write-down) offset the favorable fuel cost input.
