W.R. Berkley Grows More Cautious in 2Q
W.R. Berkley’s second-quarter results were a bit soft and suggest management is takin a more cautious approach to the market as pricing competition is growing incrementally more stiff. This combined with recent investments to expand into new lines is weighing on overall returns, with annualized ROE for the quarter coming in at 8.6%, meaningfully below our long-term expectations.
