I t is understandable that social tensions in France may be fuelled by the sense o f downward social mobility felt by many French people due to: The education system, which no longer reduces social inequalities; The fact that new jobs are poorer-quality than the jobs destroyed; The fact that a significant proportion of young graduates cannot find a job that matches their qualification, because of a lack of skilled (sophisticated) jobs; The increasing difficulty of buying a home due to the sharp rise in real estate prices.
