Activity gradually returns to its pre-crisis level: What real-time indicators say #5

The most negative effects of the crisis are beginning to dissipate, suggesting a gradual return to normal in Europe. While the indices measuring the intensity of restrictions linked to sanitary measures are easing in all countries (latest data as of June 1 st ), the mobility indices are now higher than their pre-crisis average in many regions. Return to work is becoming more and more visible. We are seeing a sharp decline in the use of online entertainment platforms and the increase in road and cycling traffic in major European cities. Finally, while fewer companies are forced to resort to short-time work in France, many difficulties remain in a few sectors of activity (tourism, hotels, automobiles, aeronautics). The French government is working on setting up a long-term short- time work scheme to support businesses with longer-term prospects of recovery. On its side , the Spanish Government has proposed to extend this type of measure until September 30 .
