As the US elections draw to an end, a political crisis starts in Germany

In the United States, there was no suspense after all with Donald Trump winning an outright victory in the presidential election. The surprise came from Germany. Olaf Scholz’s coalition collapsed just before the 35 th anniversary celebrations of the fall of the Berlin Wall this weekend. After a week dominated by politics and the many meetings of the G10 central banks, we now turn back to macroeconomics, with US inflation figures and retail sales and the UK and eurozone flash Q3 GDP estimates.
