Can we look to China to obtain answers to the important questions raised by the post-COVID economy?

Given that the COVID pandemic hit China before other countries, it is interesting to look to China to obtain answer s to the question s raised by the post-COVID economy : How are households behaving? Are they keeping precautionary savings, is there a catch-up in consumption? How are companies behaving? Is uncertainty driving them to reduce their investments? What is the growth trend? Is it weaker than before the crisis? Is there a visible skewing of the sectoral structure of the economy? What is the impact of the very expansionary monetary policy on goods prices, asset prices and credit? Can we see a preference for domestic production at the expense of imports? The main messages are that: Consumption and investment remain depressed; Growth has been weakened; The sectoral structure of the economy is being skewed ; Asset prices and credit are being pushed up; There is a preference for domestic production.
