Can we see an effect of Brexit on the euro-zone economy?
Since the Brexit referendum in June 2016, have there been signs of a weakening of euro-zone economy that could be linked to the prospect of Brexit? This could include: A deterioration in the euro zone’s trade with the United Kingdom (in goods, services, tourism, etc.), due to the weakening of growth in the United Kingdom and the depreciation of the pound sterling; A fall in UK investments in the euro zone, due to the prospect of the United Kingdom leaving the single market and the depreciation of the pound, for both corporate and real estate investments; A loss of efficiency for euro-zone companies, if they had value chains that included the United Kingdom and if these value chains have been changed; A simple effect of uncertainty on investment choices. Looking at trends since 2016, we have the impression that the effect of Brexit on the euro-zone economy has been very slightly negative, due only to a slight decline in euro-zone exports to the United Kingdom and in UK di rect investment in the euro zone .
