Capitalism’s looming problems
Contemporary capitalism is going to come under mounting criticism for two main reasons: The growth of “monetary rents”: rapid money creation and low interest rates, which are necessary to maintain debt sustainability, will drive up asset prices ever higher, increase wealth inequality and undeserved wealth gains, and turn economies into speculative economies; The inability to see through the energy transition if the required return on equity is not reduced. This is because the energy transition requires huge investment, but which offers low financial returns; it will also require financing , through increased taxation of capital income , the public income transfers to correct the rise in inequality caused by the energy transition (higher energy prices, job destruction).
