Climate: Towards a generation conflict?

The "young" are reacting ever more forcefully to the fact that global CO 2 emissions are now growing much faster than what is compatible with the international climate agreements. They therefore propose radical measures: stopping the financing of investment in fossil energies very rapidly , putting an end to the most polluting activities (air transport, coal-fired electricity, certain forms of agriculture, etc.). But the "old" are sensitive to the costs of adjusting towards a world that very rapidly would emit less CO 2 : higher transport costs, declining growth, job losses in many industries (automotive, chemicals, air transport, agri-food, etc.). Governments will therefore have to arbitrate between the demands of the "young" and the resistance of the "old".
