Composite PMI eases somewhat in July

The euro area composite PMI eased to a level of 54.3 after 54.9; a slightly weaker outcome than consensus expectations , which were for a broadly unchanged reading. Somewhat surprisingly, it was sentiment in the services sector that decreased , while the manufacturing sub index went up , suggesting that it is not “trade war ” related concerns that are behind the decline. The index level reached in July remains consistent with solid growth in the euro area.
