Dark clouds are hovering over September, with fears of a harsh winter linked to the sharp rise in gas and electricity prices following the further reduction in Russian gas supplies. Against this backdrop, central banks remain in a difficult position, fighting to reduce inflationary pressures by raising their policy rates while limiting the extent of the slowdown in their economies. For now, central bankers are clearly focusing on the fight against inflation, as long as growth and, above all, employment do not deteriorate significantly. In this respect, the next US jobs report will be important.
