Do Europeans have reason to be optimistic?
We see a number of reasons why euro-zone residents could have legitimate reasons to be quite pessimistic: The low level of long-term growth at a time when there is population ageing; The deterioration in the quality of jobs; The debt; The deindustrialisation and, in particular, the coming automotive crisis; The fact that the euro zone's structural problems (end of capital mobility between the member countries, lack of risk sharing, lack of tax and social coordination) have not been solved.
