Dwindling purchasing power

P olicy accommodation may be removed faster than anticipated if inflation does not decline , the Fed minutes confirmed . Following the January inflation print of 7.5%, US producer prices showed no signs of easing. C onsumer price inflation also continued to edge higher in the UK and Canada, r einforcing the likelihood of further interest rate increases. The rebound in January US and UK r etail sales from Omicron, while promising, is unlikely to last, as hawkish central banks and falling real wages do not bode well for household consumption.
