ECB preview: navigating through the fog of war
Inflation keeps pushing higher , while the short-term economic outlook is getting darker. Determining the appropriate pace for policy normalization in the current macro-economic environment has not become any easier for the ECB. The crucial question for the April meeting is whether the end of net purchases will be brought forward ? While we think that the statement will re-confirm the “third quarter” as the end of net purchases, we expect President Lagarde to signal that the Governing Council is leaning towards “early Q3”. At the same time, the meeting is likely to stress again, in light of the high degree of uncertainty, the data dependency of any policy move.
