ECB January meeting: rate cut discussion premature

The ECB left, as widely expected, its policy rates unchanged at the January meeting. Data dependency of any future decision was stressed again, with a particular focus on wages as the crucial factor to watch to determine the timing of a rate cut. The Governing Council views a rate cut discussion as premature at this point, though President “stood by” her previous comment that a rate cut by the summer was “probable” .
