Ending one war to start another?
The week was marked by the first talks between Trump and Putin with a view to a peace agreement in Ukraine. The two presidents are due to meet in Saudi Arabia on a date yet to be announced. At the same time, Trump signed an executive order to review the potential application and economic impact of reciprocal tariffs on US trading partners. To date, the 10% additional tariffs on Chinese goods are the only ones to have taken effect. There will be plenty of macroeconomic figures to keep an eye on, including the PMI surveys, the ZEW, UK inflation and the Philly Fed in the United States, but the week will start with a federal holiday in the United States, Presidents’ Day.
